Rosemary

Made this rosemary flatbread for lunch today cos I really couldn't be bothered leaving the house to get anything or making anything that required even just a little bit of effort. Yep, it has been a really really lazy Sunday and I've spent most of it on the couch! I've been making a lot of flatbread lately, just cos it's so easy and quick plus we've always got flour, water and salt at home. We had it with a dip that I made out of greek yoghurt, cucumber, lemon juice, olive oil, salt & pepper.

Outfit | Homemade

My outfit and what I wore to the preview of James' exhibition on Thursday night. I couldn't decide what I wanted to wear so I quickly made this top on the day and after debating whether to actually wear it or not at the last minute, I decided to go with it and pair it with my grey pants. I was really surprised at how many people liked my top and some even asked where I bought it from! I think they were quite shocked when I told them that I made it and it cost me probably about $3 in fabric to make. It's a really simple top and I guess what you can't get from the photo is the quality of the fabric. I'm wearing self-made top and pants, shoes from Tokyo, Uniqlo belt, and necklace from Mod-Parade (a boutique in Haji Lane).

On The Street...

Last night was the opening of ON THE STREET... A photo exhibiton by La Mode Outre at The Pigeonhole Cafe. Met some cool people and it was just nice to see so many people coming and going throughout the night and to see them enjoying the massive A0 and A1 prints up on the wall. I am still pretty knackered even now, it seems that the older I get, the longer it takes to recover from the night before. A bit of red wine, coffee and an uncomfortable sofabed didn't make for a very good night sleep. Anyhow, I went and dropped by the exhibition today and took some daytime photos since my flash photography with James' camera last night wasn't too flash! The exhibition is on until Friday 19th August at The Pigeonhole Cafe so go down and check it out, it's a cool little hangout spot!

Beige

Source: The Sartorialist

I love the way this whole outfit has been put together to create a cool and casual summer look. I guess most people would comment on how well she has managed to wear the beige on beige and also how the paper carriers coincidently work in with the outfit, but for me, it was the overall disheveled elegance, the seeming not to care style that I get from this picture. I've used that term "disheveled elegance" before and I'm not sure if it correctly describes what sort of style I like, but it's just that real casual, get up and throw something on look that works perfectly. It's all in the small details, the way the shorts are just loosely tied, the top sort of half-tucked, the two pendants so well-balanced, the coral nail color, and I love the way she has styled her hair. I also like how the sunnies are the perfect shape and fit for her face - it's amazing how many people pick up and put on a pair of sunnies that totally doesn't compliment their face shape. Speaking of sunnies, I really need to get myself a decent pair so that I can protect my eyes - they are failing pretty badly!

New Fabric!

While in Bangkok, we ventured out to Sampeng Lane in Chinatown to see what we could find in terms of great quality fabrics at a good price. I love going out to Sampeng Lane, it's quite a hidden spot where not many tourists know about and it has a lot of good fabric shops which sell almost every type of fabric you can imagine. Most of the shops sell at wholesale prices too if you want to buy more than 1kg. We ended up getting a nice variety of fabric and I'm so excited about the stuff I'm about to make!

We came back with some cotton knit in various colors and stripes, some Egyptian cotton for James to get a couple of shirts tailor made, and this really soft silk/wool/cashmere blend to make myself a pair of nice trousers. I couldn't believe it when i saw it - silk, wool and cashmere all in the one fabric at only 300 Baht a metre which is about $12/m. I love natural fabrics, in fact I don't even look at polyester, satin or any of the other artificial stuff. They just never breathe or feel the same as the real thing. I'd rather spend a little bit more on quality, but that's just me!

Bits of Bangkok

Can't believe it's August already! This year actually feels like it has gone by so fast and I think that's cos we've done a whole heap of travelling already (with still lots to come!), but just in general I'm doing a lot more and keeping myself busy. We just got back from a weekend up in Bangkok and it was great just to spend the two days sitting out people-watching, checking out some of the local designers and boutiques in Siam Centre, picking up some nice fabrics from Sampeng Lane in Chinatown, eating out at Greyhound Cafe and even getting a few streetstyle photographs. Who would have thought that I would end up running around a foreign country asking strangers if I could take their photograph? It was so much better than last time cos we stayed right at the centre of Siam and we knew this time where we wanted to go and where the style areas were at. I ended up taking way more street style photographs than anything else but here are a few randoms from our weekend...
