Gold Rabbit

James brought this back for me the last time he went to Tokyo. It's one of my favourite accessories as it can go with lots of things. It's quite heavy and has a matt gold finish which contrasts nicely against basic pieces such as a plain white top. I hope to find more cool stuff like this next month when we go back to Tokyo!

Dazed

Love this editorial in the June 2011 issue of Dazed & Confused. Featuring models Liu Xu and Hyun Yi, photography by Lina Scheynius, and styling by Katie Shillingford, this editorial is dreamy, dramatic and intimately beautiful. Each photo draws you into the emotion first and then to the clean and simple pieces by designers including Givenchy, Rick Owens, Chanel, Comme Des Garcons and Dolce & Gabbana.

Stuffed Peppers & Five Spice

When it's just me at home for dinner and James is away like he has been this week in Taipei, I never really feel like cooking proper meals. For some reason it seems like a lot of effort to cook and plate up just one serve. Anyway, I bought the ingredients to make stuffed peppers and five spice rolls a couple of days ago and after putting it off, I finally got around to making these tonight!

The first dish is served in most Chinese Dim Sum restaurants around the world. It is capsicums stuffed with minced fish meat, spring onions and chinese mushrooms, and served in a rich black bean and garlic sauce. Serve it with some steamed white rice and my goodness the combination of flavours is just divine! You get the saltiness of the black beans, the sweetness of just cooked capsicums and a nice springy texture in the stuffing. You can tell I get really excited when I talk about food!

This is only my second time making the stuffed peppers and I must admit they didn't turn out as good as the first time. But that's always the case with my cooking - I tend to cook up a really kick-ass dish the first time but then I'm never able to recreate that exact dish again! Nevertheless, dinner was still tasty and I enjoyed it while watching the latest episode of MasterChef Australia. Yeah, my life really does revolve around food! I live to eat. And this wouldn't be a blog about the things I love if it didn't include food.

The second dish is five spice meat rolls and I've made these plenty of times. I actually used the fish paste mixture leftover from the stuffed peppers, mixed it with some pork mince, seasoned it with lots of chinese five spice, wrapped in bean curd sheets and then deep fried. Delicious! More home cooking photos to come!

Yohji Yamamoto | +NOIR S/S 2011

Yohji Yamamoto +Noir is a collection based on classic and timeless pieces of the Yohji Yamamoto line. Each season a part of the collection changes, while the other part remains the same. Yohji Yamamoto +Noir is almost entirely black with an unusual punctuation of bright colours. This is my selection from the S/S 2011 collection. I love how the silhouettes are mostly very structured while at the same time, the clean lines create movement and elegance.

Lighten Up

I have noticed a lot of light-wash denim in the shops lately and I think it's so refeshing to look at. I love especially the light weight denim fabrics combined with the light wash, the rolled up cuffs and the overall slightly baggy look. These guys are all rocking the light-wash. I quite like Kate Bosworth's dressed down look - light jeans paired with the salmon pink jumper. It's so fresh and cool for summer!

Global Street Chic

Last month, Singapore was included in an ongoing Global Street Chic feature on Elle.com which is a gallery of street style from 15-20 cities around the world including New York, LA, Amsterdam, Vancouver, Sydney and Seoul. New cities are being added each week and it was nice to see my fellow kiwis making it onto the map this week! Not being biased at all but I have had a scroll through most of the countries on there and I do like what I see for Singapore a lot! These are my favourite 3 shots. I like the small details, long lines and the light delicate fabrics which are perfect for this weather.

And more exciting news - on Tuesday, Singapore started to feature on Elle.com's Street Chic Daily which previously only included looks from the fashion capitals of the world: New York, London, Milan and Paris! Check it all out over at Elle.com!

Blazered

I've always liked the look of a nice clean-fit blazer, but every time I think blazer, I think of the heat and humidity of Singapore and how I would cope with wearing one. And it's not like I sit in an air-conditioned office/building all day so I have no real need to wear one.

The blazer+shorts combination along with a plain tee is so effortlessly stylish, like you can get away with just those items and still look cool without even accessorising. And I love the pushed up sleeves. The idea of wearing the sleeves this way or rolling them up I guess makes it seem more do-able here. Perhaps I will give it a go, I really like the look of the blazer paired with light-wash denim shorts.

Sometimes I really do wish that we could have autumn/spring/winter here, maybe just for a day or two. It would be a pleasant change from the normal uncomfortably hot temperatures that we get living just 1 degree north of the equator. But that will never happen, so I guess we just have to make do!

Alexa Chung X Vogue Korea

Alexa Chung graces the covers of both Vogue Kr and Vogue UK for June 2011 with her distinct personal style that sets the trend for this summer. These are some of the shots taken from the Vogue Korea editorial. The styling is elegantly simple and she just has a very cool and fresh look about her that is so hard not to love. I know that so many people are obsessed with Alexa, but I just very much like her style!

Boyfriend Fit

I recently bought these boyfriend-fit chinos and some boyfriend-fit straight jeans from UNIQLO but I haven't really worn them yet as I'm not sure whether they are quite right for me. I bought them 'cos it is so unbelievably hard to find pants that actually fit me, I have small/no hips which means that anything with a bit of shape just doesn't sit nicely. So when I tried these on, I was quite excited as they fitted perfectly! After all they really have no shape around the hips, are pretty much straight up and down and still have a kind of feminine fit. Still need to figure out how I would wear them though without looking short and frumpy.

Here are some looks taken from The Sartorialist where they've worked the "boyfriend pants" look. I like how they all look so effortlessly cool, casual and comfortable. I've always liked the photo of the girl knitting, love everything about her style - her thick hair, the bangs, the colours and tones of her clothes, the way she is sitting and I just like the overall composition of the photo. And of course you've got to be cool to be seen knitting in public these days.

Skinny Love

I first heard Skinny Love by Bon Ivor awhile ago on "Later Live with Jools Holland" and it was always just one of those songs that came on and it was nice to listen to. But then I came across this version by Birdy and I absolutely love it! It's such a fantastic cover, I play it on repeat and it just sounds like one continuous song that has no beginning or end. Beautiful. Plus the piano really makes me want to play again.

Zara's May Lookbook

I'm really liking Zara's lookbook from the last couple of months. Here are my favourite looks for May. Lots of white, neutral tones, pops of colour, light fabrics, and clean and simple pieces that can be easily matched. It's really quite refreshing and a nice change to see more white and bright colours.
