Tokyo Is Calling...

... And we are on our way! Right now, we are on the plane and headed for Tokyo! It will be my third time back there and I have to say that I am no less excited than the first. Tokyo would have to be our favorite city in Asia to visit simply because it has everything that we look for in a city holiday - great food, great shopping, lots of good cafes, good people-watching spots, well-dressed and friendly people and everything just seems perfect from the minute we step off the plane.

James took this shot of me last time I was in Tokyo back in May 2010. It's down a back lane in Harajuku. I'm wearing Comme Ca Ism dress, and the shoes, bag and scarf are all from boutiques in Tokyo.

One Minute: Lucie

I came across this short video by Dennis Swiatkowski, a photographer who runs a blog called "Get Your Plane Right On Time". His blog is basically a visual diary of his encounters through fashion, film and photography. The concept behind One Minute is that he composes short videos with people whom he arranges to meet up with, or in this case, people he just meets out on the streets. I love this girl's style, from the french inspired outfit, to the accessories to the hair. There is actually a lot going on but it's all kept very simple. And The Whitest Boy Alive in the background is quite perfect!

Short Denim

Source: Ring My Bell, Zara trf

I like both of these looks where light wash denim shorts have been paired with simple white tees and light accessories. It's so spring summery and perfect for Singapore all year round!

Also, 2 more sleeps til TOKYO! Yeah, I'm pretty excited!

Outfit | White Olive

Wore this one day while we were up in Ho Chi Minh. A simple and comfortable outfit that was perfect for doing lots and lots of walking around in about 30 degree heat. Yep, we walked from District 1 to District 3 and back only to find that half of the cafes and shops that we mapped out were no longer there anymore. It felt like we were walking all day but not actually going anywhere! I'm wearing a self-made top, Uniqlo chino pants and leather belt, leather bag from Taipei and Converse shoes.

And my hair is a bit of a mess right now but it's getting there (I hope). I've been waiting for the last 3 months for it to grow out from my short asymmetrical cut and I still have a few months to go before I can even it out. So, just have to tie it up and deal with it for now, and once it's back I don't think I'll be cutting it for awhile!

Ho Chi Minh City Streets

Well, after 6 months of planning, my family couldn't make it across to South East Asia. The Chilean volcano decided to start spewing just days before their departure causing their flight to be cancelled out of New Zealand and their 2 week trip around Singapore, Ho Chi Minh and KL cancelled. But since James and I hadn't been to HCMC and since it's only a 1hr30min flight for us, we decided to go ahead with the trip without them.

Hadn't heard much about the city except that HCMC was quite a "modern" city. After spending three days there, I would say that HCMC is a bit of a mish-mash of old and new, but the "new" bits are far and few between. It's starting to develop though and give it another 50 years or so and it will probably be a modern city.

Here's some streetsnaps from around the city that, to me, capture the essence of Ho Chi Minh. We have to be probably the worst travelers as all we seem to do when we go to new cities is seek out cafes, coffee shops and look around the boutiques. We did walk pass the War Remnants Museum and we walked through the Ben Thanh markets but we are really not interested in doing the touristy things. I mean they would be great if you are into history or if you want to pick up some "cheap and tacky tourist junk" as I read in one of the travel guides online, but just not for us. So, we just explored the city by foot and here's some of what I saw.

The Perfect Shirt

Source: Hanneli, La Mode Outre

I love love love all of these looks! I think it's definitely in the lightness of the shirts and the delicate fabrics. Perfect for the weather here where it's basically summer all year round. Loving the light summery pastel shades paired with dark grey or black bottoms, the tucked shirts, the light accessorizing and the overall elegance.

Fitted

Source: Stockholm Streetstyle

I love the way this guy looks and it would be nice to see more guys dressed like this. He makes it look so easy, but what I think really does it, is the perfectly fitted pants and shirt. And I know that espadrilles are in this summer and I know that many people aren't so much a fan of them but the sailor striped espadriles that this guy is wearing are just right! Together with the bag, they add a nice pop of blue to the neutral tones of his outfit.

Baby Asparagus & Bacon Rolls

I made these the other afternoon, it was kind of a late lunch before dinner snack! And since these are really easy to make, I've written up a quick recipe to share. It's only a guideline though and all measurements are approximately what I used but you can vary them depending on taste. (I don't usually follow a recipe when I cook, I tend to make it up as I go!).

Bassike S/S 2011-12

Just a handful of images from the Bassike S/S 2011-2012 lookbook. This collection is so clean, minimal and wearable. I particularly like the long lines, the stripes and the muted earthy colour tones. And love the photo amongst the cactuses!

Bright Red, Camel

Source: mode d'amour, Sincerely Jules, The Locals, Carolines Mode

I really like this colour combination and even though I know it's already been around for awhile, I think the neutral camel colour will always be in. It's one those timeless classics that you can wear anytime of year and with a splash of bright red, it's perfect for spring/summer!

YSL Parisienne

"The essence of a woman who is incredibly free - she is not from Paris, but Paris adopts her. She knows how to love, how to live. Parisienne is the fragrance of ultra-feminity and sensuality, built with notes of blackberry, damask rose, and sandalwood. The grand floral with a woody structure is luminous even in its mystery"

Image: Refinery29

I'm loving my new YSL Parisienne fragrance - it's sweet, fruity, rosey, refreshing and smells delicious! I used to have the YSL Paris and it was one of my favourites, haven't worn a lot of perfume lately but I think that will change very soon!
